Estimation of MIC breakpoints for intravenous dosage regimens of mecillinam


In Denmark, complicated urinary tract infections (UTI) are often treated with mecillinam (i.v.). It is highly active against E. coli with MIC values of 0.125 - 0.5 mg/L and retains activity against many ESBL-producing E. coli (MIC ≅ 1 - 2 mg/L). Here, we analyze a number of dosage regimens related to the new vial size (1000 mg) with respect to relevant MIC levels. The analysis is done as a Monte Carlo simulation study based on data from healthy volunteers.
